Afternoon Keynote: Dr. Kenneth C. (Casey) Green, Director, Campus Computing Project, "From Data to Decisions: Campus Computing 2001." ~ The Campus Computing Project (www.campuscomputing.net) tracks the status of information technology in American higher education. We will be among the first to hear the results of the 2001 survey, with a special emphasis on what the survey data mean to us as directors of educational technology.
2:30 - 3:30 Plenary Session: Arlene Krebs: President, New Orbit Communications, "Funding Your E-Learning Vision." ~ Arlene Krebs is author of The Distance Learning Funding Sourcebook, a best-selling book now in its fourth edition.  Arlene will share with us her wealth of knowledge and distance education, how to work with funding agencies, and how to get your campus's share of funding.

4:00 - 5:00 Plenary Session: Dr. Michael V. Peshkam: President/CEO, Prisma Netsourcing, Inc., and Peter Withers, Prisma's Executive Vice President for Business Development. "Nadir or Nirvana?" ~ Mike and Peter explain, "We embrace the roles of traditional management consultants, systems integrators and solutions vendors in a unified, enterprise-focused model."  The genesis of Nadir or Nirvana? stems from the fact that academic institutions have a very finite window of opportunity to strategically direct resources and focus attention on the core of their business strategy, and attain uniqueness in the rapidly changing education landscape.  The presentation will be coupled with interactive discussion, surrounding the subject of technology management, change management, and whether or not technology could play a significant role in this finite time frame.

8:30 - 9:30 Concurrent Session: Marlene de Leon, Distance Learning Specialist, Palomar College, and CCCSAT Project Leader, "Distance Education Coordinators in California Community Colleges." This session will provide an overview of a professional development model for Distance Education Coordinators in the California Community College system. The development team members will present an update of the project, including a timeline, budget, and plan for delivery of the program content, as well as the challenges they face. A collaborative work session is planned to address key issues and concerns.
8:30 - 9:30 Concurrent Session: Dave Sharp, Director, and James Frazee, Associate Director, Instructional Technology Services, San Diego State University, "Charting a Smooth Course for Portal Development." Adjust your sails and attend this session for answers to the following: What is SDSU's definition of a campus web portal? Who are the potential users? Where are they now? Where are they going? How will it work? What were the selection criteria, and how did they use a rubric to support participative decision-making?
9:45 - 10:30 Concurrent Session: David Grannis, Director of Educational Technology, California Lutheran University, "Results of CLU's Culpepper Grant for Technololgy Infusion." California Lutheran University received a Culpepper grant to create technology-based products for use by faculty in the classroom. This session will discuss the project, analyze what worked and what didn't, and demonstrate individual products resulting from the grant.
9:45 - 10:30 Concurrent Session: Warren Ashley, Director, Mediated Instruction and Distance Learning, California State University, Dominguez Hills, "Internet Broadcasting Made Simple." CSU Dominguez Hills has been broadcasting on the Internet since January 1999. This fall, Dominguez Hills began using AVAcaster, a new streaming application that is more accessible for students and easier for faculty to use. Students from all over the world have been logging onto the broadcasts. This presentation will include a live demonstration of AVA.

11:00 - 12:00 Plenary Session: Vicki Suter, Director, NLII Projects, EDUCAUSE, "The National Learning Infrastructure Initiative (NLII): What It Is, What It Is Doing, and How You Can Get Involved." ~ The NLII is a coalition established by EDUCAUSE that seeks to harness the power of information technology to improve the quality of teaching and learning, contain or reduce rising costs, and provide greater access to American higher education. Vicki will describe the NLII's current initiatives (the IMS Project, for one) and discuss how DET/CHE members can get involved.

1:15 - 2:30 Plenary Session: Dr. Harry (Bud) Rizer, Director, Center on Disabilities, California State University, Northridge, "Technology-Based Accommodations for Postsecondary Students with Disabilities." ~ Dr Rizer is one of this country's foremost authorities on assistive technologies and accommodations for the disabled.  He will speak with us about what we need to know to provide accommodations, and in particular what we must do to make sure our web sites (including course web sites) are accessible.
2:45 - 3:45 Plenary Session: Dr. David Graf, Executive Director of Information Technology, Nova Southeastern University, "Best Practices in Online Teaching: Results of an International WebCT Study." ~ For the past two years, Dr. Graf has received funding from WebCT to identify the best of the best course web sites worldwide that use the WebCT platform. He has developed a model for evaluating courses and identifying best practices. He will share with us his criteria and show us example of truly exemplary courses.

8:30 - 9:15 Concurrent Session: George Mozes, Director, Library and Educational Television, Palomar College, "CCCSAT and e-Conferencing Issues." This session will describe million-dollar projects for satellite delivery of courses and electronic conferencing in the California Community College system, and will discuss current issues related to each.
8:30 - 9:15 Concurrent Session: Paul Massman, Director, Instructional Technology, Concordia University Irvine, "CourseInfo vs. WebCT: Reflections from a Campus with Both." Concordia University Irvine began using CourseInfo about two years ago, primarily to support face-to-face classes. This fall, CUI added WebCT to develop some degree classes that are a hybrid of weekend F2F meetings and mediated online instruction. This session will describe the merits and deficiencies of both products, support of both by a "one man band," and issues related to the design and implementation of the hybrid degree completion classes - what worked, what didn't, and what's next.
9:30 - 10:30 Plenary Session: Donald G. Perrin, President, DonEl Learning, Inc., "Interactive Hybrid Webs." Digital Video Disc (DVD) provides interactivity with high quality video, sound, and graphics. Hybrid webs (seamlessly combined with digital disc) are today's solution for bandwidt-limited systems. Core content on DVD is expanded and updated with online content. This presentation will use model DVD lessons and web sites to demonstrate exciting learning possibilities for K-12, home-school, college, and corporate learning. DVD-on-CD offers a low cost option for local production of DVDs.
