Full Description:
Do your faculty want to teach online courses or use web-based tools to supplement onground courses, but aren't sure where to start? Having trouble getting faculty buy-in to online learning?
Learn how College of the Canyons overcame these challenges by developing an online course for faculty entitled "Strategies for Success in Online Teaching." This for-credit course is not focused on technology, but rather on pedagogy; it is not about using the newest technological tools, but rather about using these tools to improve teaching. The course is designed for faculty to experience the components of a online learning from both student and instructor perspectives. In short, the course aims to assist faculty in their quest to provide students with an outstanding online learning experience and to expand access to education through online courses.
Attendees will learn how to plan and implement such a course. Attendees will also hear about the experiences of faculty participants from course evaluations and testimonials. These evaluations and testimonials are uniformly positive, and express a desire for a more advanced follow-up course as well as an increased awareness of instructional design in an onground classroom. Finally, attendees will be asked for their input on a follow-up ładvanced online teaching˛ course that College of the Canyons is currently developing.
